Video Blogging Week 1

Trying out this whole video thing at the urging of Arik Hanson. Yeah. Let me know what you think.

Update: People wanted to see the dog that makes an appearance – he was rather grumpy with me this morning when I took it. Diesel is a 3 year old Sheltie.

LOVING the new blog! So proud of you, Laura :)

    Thanks, Nichole!

Having seen you in person and experienced your camera shyness first-hand, I'm so proud of you for conquering your demons! You did a video, and the world didn't end. :-) I think it's terrific to allow everyone to get a feel for how fun you really are -- loved it!
  • laurenfernandez
Thanks, K! Jury is still out on that, though. :)
  • Matt Cheuvront
Well done Laura - you have to love when someone steps out of their comfort zone and tries something new. Video blogging is a great way to forge an intimate connection with your community of readers - I'm a big believe in the medium. Looking forward to more to come!
  • laurenfernandez
Thanks, Matt. It was pretty hard to do - I'm camera shy, but sometimes you just have to go with it. The encouragement rocks. I think I like the medium as well!
  • bethharte
P.S. Love the new blog design! :)
  • bethharte
Very nice Lauren! I know video can be really hard, but you did a great job. :) Glad to see you're venturing out of your comfort zone...it's what everyone needs from time-to-time. Just keep in mind, when you do a meaty video with great content also be sure to capture it in words for SEO and our hearing impaired friends out there. ;-)
  • laurenfernandez
Thanks, Beth! I should have thought about capturing it in words - I'm hard of hearing as it is, and I need to reach out to everyone.

Glad you like the blog design! :)

Lauren, WHERE is the PEYTON MANNING bobble head?!?!?!

You puppy is adorable! She obviously wants to video blog too. The video part will get easier with time. It is like developing public speaking skills, the more you practice the better it will become.
  • laurenfernandez
He's next to the Aaron Rodgers one. Brett Favre is the annoying bobblehead that I force to agree with me. :-)

Public speaking I've got down. Now to conquer vlogging! Diesel will be sure to make more appearances. :)
  • Rebecca Denison
Even if you had sucked (which you so totally didn't), I agree with Arik that you certainly jumped in with such energy that you could talk about anything and be interesting.

I can't wait to see more of you! I'm about to do my first "vlog" for Matt Cheuvront's new project. Now that I see you can do it, I feel more confident. :)
  • laurenfernandez
Haha, guess that's why people listen to me even when I talk about popsicles. I never realized how many expressions cross my face when I talk.

I know you can do it Rebecca - trust me, if I can do it, you can! :)
  • Teresa Basich
Yaaayyyyy! I did my first video blog last week -- totally understand the awkwardness! Don't worry at all, you did a great job! And it'll get easier with time. At least that's what the vloggers tell me. ;-) Looking forward to more, frotasticness and all (I have fro hair, too).
  • laurenfernandez
Let's hope so, T! Us frotastic sisters have to stick together.
  • Arik Hanson
Love it--you're a video rock star! ;) In all seriousness, big kudos to you for taking a risk and getting out of your comfort zone. THIS is why I'm such a big fan. You continue to push the envelope--even if it's something you're clearly not used to doing.

Looking forward to more LAF vids and "frotastic" comments in the future.

  • laurenfernandez
Well, when you're a bully, you get your wishes. :)

In all seriousness, your encouragement and telling me I could do it is what got me here. Thanks buddy. :)
  • "Frotastic" love it! So funny. You are way more daring than I am because I too do NOT like being on video so kudos to you for venturing out on that limb. You should definitely keep 'vlogging.' If Lloyd* can do it, you can do it. Go Cowboys even though the traffic they caused made me completely miss class tonight after sitting on the highway for 2 hours!!!

Love the Lloyd reference Chevis. I definitely don't like it, but I was encouraged to step outside my comfort zone.

And yuck - I'm glad you got out of traffic ok, but not that you had to miss class.
  • GoKTGo
I LOOOOVE IT!!! You are so precious! :D
  • laurenfernandez
Even though I made no mention of moral v. mental? :) Thanks KT!
  • GoKTGo
    Haha!

You handled yourself like a true deb. ;)

    Beautiful.

I'm looking forward to more fro-tastic videos!
  • mollyblock
Nice debut, Lauren. Your dog running around in the background -- and your comment about him -- plus the bobblehead's cameo add to your video's overall charm. :-)
  • laurenfernandez
I'd rather people see me for me, then think all is quiet at the homestead. I lead a hectic life, so the dog just added to it. Glad you liked it!
  • Karl Kovacs
Hey, great post! It is one thing to blog about something but to video blog about it is a difficult but very rewarding way to get your message out.
    Please keep it up.
  • laurenfernandez
It was probably one of the hardest things I have done. I really do hate the camera - and I had just gotten in from a run when I shot it. Sometimes, you have to step out of your comfort zone. My mentors are always encouraging me to do that - which is why I started speaking.
